Empowering diverse communities by enhancing awareness, building capacity, and bridging service delivery gaps.
The group will provide an overview of health and social services available to help newcomer men settle, and thrive in their new community. Topics will range from adapting to Canadian culture, accessing health and social services, and providing awareness of their legal rights and responsibilities in Canada. It will be a safe space for men to ask questions, share feelings and experiences, and network with others in the community.
BOARD CHAIR MESSAGE PCHS Manitoba started off as a dream shared by like-minded South Asian health and wellness practitioners. Systemic barriers are challenging to navigate when addressing the needs of diverse communities such as the South Asian Community. There was a demonstrated gap between the services currently available, and the capacity of the South Asian Community to engage in these services. Differences in cultural and religious practices, and socio-economic factors dependent on the lifestyle of new immigrants are barriers to providing impactful and meaningful services. PCHS MB is determined to address these barriers as the organization grows and expands in the coming years.
We are excited to announce the hiring of Roni Dhaliwal, Social Worker, to fulfill the role of Systems Navigator and Community Support Worker. His role is to support and empower individuals and families from diverse communities to seek the help they need, and connect them to existing health and social service programs. Long before his official start, Roni has already been providing service to members in the South Asian Community in various capacities, on his own volunteer time. Roni was born and raised in Manitoba and has his master’s degree in social work from Dalhousie University. Roni has been practicing as a social worker in the community for over 15 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role. Both PCHS and Roni are excited at the opportunity to provide high-quality services to under-serviced communities all across Manitoba.
